Outreach and Education

CLassroom presentation with Reflectorsaurus.

The Alaska Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Outreach Team is raising Alaskan’s awareness about walking and biking safety.

The team travels to schools, health fairs, and conferences throughout the state with our mascot, Reflectorsaurus, to demonstrate:

  • Why it is important to Be SAFE and Be SEEN.
  • The importance of wearing a reflector when it is dark.
  • What side of the street to walk on and how to cross at a cross walk safely.
  • What side of the street to ride your bike on and the rules of the road.

To encourage students to Be SAFE and Be SEEN, we offer free reflectors to all K-8 grade schools in Alaska. Reflectors are the most effective way of reducing school children accidents during darkness.

To schedule a presentation at your school or request reflectors, please contact the Outreach Team.
