Who Should Adopt?

Many types of groups participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program including school, civic, business, professional religious and social groups. Some sections of highways are adopted by individuals and families. But we still have plenty of room for you!

Alaska DOT&PF reserves the right to refuse any group adopting a section of highway when the adoption may create a safety hazard for DOT&PF employees or the public, jeopardize the Adopt-A-Highway program or prove counter-productive to its purpose.

How to Get Started

  1. Organize your group and get commitments before you submit your application.
  2. Contact your regional coordinator for more information about adopting a highway in your area.
  3. Complete the permit application and submit it to the appropriate DOT&PF office.
  4. The regional coordinator will notify you when you are approved and will assist you in getting started.
