State Assumption of Responsibility for Categorical Exclusions under Section 6004
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and DOT&PF have developed and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that allows the FHWA to assign to the State of Alaska the responsibility for determining whether a project is categorically excluded from preparation of an environmental assessment or an environmental impact statement. The MOU also assigns to the State certain responsibilities for conducting environmental reviews, consultations, and related activities for Federal-aid highway projects.
