The MV Kennicott's northbound cross gulf sailing scheduled for March 30, 2024, from Juneau to Yakutat, Whittier, Kodiak, and Homer has been canceled due to a mechanical issue with one of the ship's lifeboats. This cancellation also affects the southbound cross-gulf sailing from Whittier on April 5, 2024. The Kennicott will sail its Inside Passage route while awaiting the replacement of the lifeboat motor.
Efforts to resolve the issue are underway, including ordering a replacement engine from Sweden. However, due to the necessary U.S. Customs screening timeline, the replacement engine will arrive after the scheduled cross gulf sailing.
