The Road Weather Information System (RWIS) is a network of meteorological and pavement sensors located along the highway system. RWIS stations are located in strategic locations to provide accurate real-time road weather information and critical observations for forecasts. This and other weather information helps Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities improve timeliness of maintenance actions, like when to snowplow or deposit anti-icing/de-icing chemicals on the highways.
