Seward
Airport Improvements
Environmental Assessment with Finding Of No Significant Impact - Project 56525

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is proposing to upgrade the Seward Airport to enhance the safety and operational capabilities of the Airport. The proposed improvements are consistent with the Airport Layout Plan for the Seward Airport. The Proposed Action includes the following:
- Reconstruct both runways within their existing dimensions. The existing threshold displacement for Runway 12 will be maintained and the threshold of Runway 30 will be displaced 100 feet to the north.
- Raise Runway 12-30 an average of one and a half feet so that the entire length will be above the 100-year flood elevation.
- Protect runway embankment from erosion by the Resurrection River through the placement of riprap. Place additional erosion protection between the north end of Runway 12-30 and the existing railroad along the Seward Highway.
- Shift the centerline of Runway 12-30 six feet to the southwest.
- Widen and pave Taxiway A to meet ARC B-II standards.
- Replace the existing culvert underneath Taxiway A with a larger culvert.
- Repair or replace airfield lighting, NAVAIDS, and markings.
- Repave the runways, apron, and taxiways.
- Install security fencing from the Resurrection River on the east side of the Airport along the Airport Access Road to Resurrection Bay at the south end of the Airport.
- Extend area lighting at the apron where there is no existing lighting.
