Hatcher Pass Road Closed Due to Avalanche

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – Hatcher Pass Road (Palmer-Fishhook) was closed around 9 a.m. March 19, due to an avalanche at MP 15, near Palmer. Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Avalanche Specialists are assessing the area to determine the stability of the slide and risk of additional avalanches. The road closure is expected to last at least 24 hours. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is advising the public to stay away from Hatcher Pass until conditions improve.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 237 airports, 9 ferries serving 35 communities along 3,500 marine miles, over 5,600 miles of highway and 839 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska.
