(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) opened a new runway in Manley early this month. The longer 3,400 foot long, 60 foot wide runway will make passenger, mail, and freight service possible with twin-engine aircraft. The old, shorter runway is now closed to takeoffs and landings and has been converted into a taxiway leading to an aircraft parking area. Pilots are reminded to obtain current NOTAMs from the nearest FAA air traffic facility.

The new runway was a high priority for the residents of Manley Hot Springs which is located at the end of the Elliott Highway. The highway can be challenging to travel in the winter due to overflow on the roadway, high wind areas, and blowing snow.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 237 airports, 9 ferries serving 35 communities along 3,500 marine miles, over 5,600 miles of highway and 839 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
