AMHS Announces Community Events in Whittier and Valdez

(JUNEAU, Alaska) –The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) today announced that the M/V Aurora will participate in community events at the Prince William Sound communities of Whittier and Valdez as part of the AMHS 50th Anniversary celebration.

On Friday, August 16 from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. the M/V Aurora will be in Whittier to celebrate the Alaska Marine Highway with a seafood barbeque at the ferry terminal. While in Whittier, celebration attendees will be welcomed by a host of activities including public tours of the vessel along with attractions around town such as the Halibut in the Harbor display and the Prince William Sound Museum.

The M/V Aurora will then sail for Valdez Friday evening where it will be in port for an all-day celebration Saturday, August 17. The community event in Valdez kicks off at 10 a.m. with tours of the ship and activities for children. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the City of Valdez has planned a fish fry for all to enjoy and at noon the Richardson Highway Rendezvous Music Festival will continue the party at the Valdez Kelsey Dock with a diverse line-up of local and statewide bands.
