Alaska Marine Highway System Announces 2012-2013 Winter Schedule

(JUNEAU, Alaska) – The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) announced today the early release of the Winter 2012-2013 schedule for sailing service during this coming fall, winter and spring.

“Releasing the schedule early greatly benefits the communities served by the marine highway system,” said Michael Neussl, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Deputy Commissioner for Marine Operations. “Not only does it provide Alaskans with more time to plan their travel but it also helps those traveling to Alaska during the busy summer season shoulder months of October and April.”

The AMHS winter schedule covers ferry travel from October 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013.

Travelers are encouraged to make reservations in advance either online at FerryAlaska.com, by calling 1-800-642-0066, or visiting ferry terminal staff throughout the system. Making advance reservations is the best way to guarantee space for passengers and vehicles, and it allows the system to operate more efficiently. Fare information is available online or from reservations agents.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 34 communities, 5,700 miles of highway and 660 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of DOT&PF is to “Get Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
