Alaska Marine Highway 50th Anniversary Public Comment Period Closes May 11, 2012

(JUNEAU, ALASKA) –The public comment period for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) 50th Anniversary celebration will close May 11, 2012.

AMHS will begin the yearlong celebration in 2013 and is looking for interesting ideas of how the ferry system can celebrate its golden anniversary. Anyone with ideas is encouraged to email amhs50@alaska.gov before the deadline.

As part of the celebration, AMHS is also looking for unique anecdotal information or photos.

“If you have historic photos, information or a good personal story to share that will help make this anniversary special, the Alaska Marine Highway would like to hear from you,” said Michael Neussl, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Deputy Commissioner for Marine Operations.

More information about the Alaska Marine Highway 50th Anniversary may be found online at FerryAlaska.com.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 34 communities, 5,700 miles of highway and 660 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of DOT&PF is to “Get Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
