Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Coronavirus Update How we keep travelers and employees safe

(ANCHORAGE) – Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) uses airport cleaning methods and materials that reduce the potential for acquiring communicable diseases in its facilities. These cleaning methods and materials are designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19, Influenza A&B, Norovirus, and the multitude of other communicable diseases that exist in the world.
“Our daily expectation at ANC is for you to have a safe and enjoyable experience whenever you use our airport,” said Airport Manager Jim Szczesniak. “We take great pride in the fact that our staff maintains ANC as one of the cleanest airports in the world.”
Here are the multilayer cleaning protocols ANC has in place to keep travelers and employees safe from communicable diseases:
Our terminals
Our terminals are designed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
- The North and South Terminals have separate ventilation systems that are managed to meet Federal Indoor Air Quality Standards to minimize the spread of airborne communicable diseases.
- The ventilation systems bring in a mix of fresh outdoor air and recirculated air. Recirculated air intakes are high above passengers allowing gravity to prevent virus containing droplets from entering the air recirculation intakes.
- Recirculated air is filtered through two activated carbon air filters.
- Out of an abundance of caution, heating and cooling coils are treated with a disinfectant/virucide.
- Our restrooms and common areas use nonporous materials to allow for effective cleaning of all surfaces.
Our methods and materials
ANC has always had a robust cleaning program in our airport and will continue using disinfectants that are effective against viruses.
- All restrooms are disinfected three times per day and sanitation touch-ups are performed each shift.
- Floors and vertical surfaces are sanitized three times per day.
- Handrails are sanitized several times per day.
- Carpets are vacuumed daily using equipment with HEPA filters to trap any viruses present.
- Drinking fountains are disinfected three times per day and steam cleaned weekly.
- Hand sanitizer stations are placed outside of the Security Screening Checkpoint, and additional hand sanitizer stations are being procured for deployment throughout the terminal.
ANC’s staff takes great pride in maintaining and providing the cleanest and safest place possible for the public. ANC is also working closely with health experts from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) and follows guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure our methods and materials remain consistent with the most current for handling new developments related to the Covid-19 coronavirus.
