The 61st Annual King Salmon Fishing Derby is a month-long competition for the biggest king salmon caught in Wrangell waters. Over $30,000 in cash and prizes available to the winner and runners up. $20,000 to the lucky fisherman that catches the Tagged Salmon. Special competitions held during the month to add to the frenzy!

Petersburg celebrates its Norwegian heritage by honoring Norwegian Constitution Day, May 17th, with the Little Norway Festival. The entire community celebrates with food and craft booths throughout downtown, the festival parade, a Scandinavian pageant, Bunad Style Show and Luncheon, Kaffe Hus with Norwegian pastries and goodies made with butter and love, music on the streets, a herring toss, Vikings and Valkyries roaming the streets looking for victims, a walk-run race, ending the 4 days of celebration with a community salmon, halibut, and black cod bake at Sandy Beach.

The fourth annual Juneau Maritime Festival will celebrate Juneau's maritime history, marine culture and commerce at Marine Park in downtown Juneau from 11am to 4pm. There will be exhibits and activities for all ages including tours of all types of marine vessels and much more. There will be product sales, food vendors and live entertainment throughout the event.

The Yakutat area boasts the southernmost known and one of the largest breeding colonies of Aleutian terns within its range. Black Sand Spit was recently designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by National Audubon Society for its global significance to Aleutian terns. In addition to terns, over 200 bird species have been recorded on the Yakutat Forelands, including over 100 nesting varieties and many rarities. Key components of the Yakutat Tern Festival include educating the local community, including youth, on migratory and resident birds, the importance of their habitat, and conservation issues, and to increase ecotourism and stimulate the local economy.
