The Alaska Class Ferry will service areas such as Lynn Canal, Prince Rupert to Ketchikan and Prince William Sound. The 4 to 8 hour sailing time on the routes in these areas is shorter than traditional mainline service. Operating these shorter routes with this type of vessel will allow AMHS to remain committed to providing traditional mainline service with overnight accommodations on its longer routes, while improving the overall efficiency of the system.
To accommodate passengers on these shorter routes, the Alaska Class Ferry will provide large, comfortable business class type seating. This type of seating will prov
ide a comfortable place to sit and rest during the short run.
Areas of padded bench seating and table arrangements that allow for groups to congregate if traveling together will also be included. These areas will provide a place for families to gather or individuals to read or work.
AMHS also recognizes that some of our passengers have special needs, even during a shorter voyage. The Alaska Class Ferry will include a small number of quiet rooms that will be issued as needed by the on-board AMHS personnel for that purpose.
Food, video displays, concessions and large viewing areas along with modern conveniences to support today’s traveler all make up the Alaska Class passenger experience.
